Food safety is an important issue for every farm. Contamination by food borne pathogens can make your customers ill and have devastating impacts for your business as well the other farmers in your industry sector. Fortunately, proper harvesting and handling techniques will minimize the risk of contamination as well as increase the shelf life and marketability of your products.  Implementing food safety practices is simply good farming.

In addition to being the right thing to do, food safety is increasingly becoming a required part of doing business.  Many buyers require some form of food safety audit. The federal Food Safety Modernization Act also requires increased food safety regulations on farms of all sizes.
