Phil Manlick



I’m interested in the roles of climate and land-use change in restructuring population dynamics and community interactions. I focus on the ecology and conservation of carnivores, and I aim to integrate conservation genetics, stable isotope analyses, spatial models, and demographic analyses to develop a mechanistic understanding of the processes driving species interactions and distributions.

My masters research identified the proximate and ultimate mechanisms inhibiting the recovery of reintroduced American martens in Wisconsin, and my dissertation has extended this research to develop a “top-down” framework for implementing carnivore reintroductions using a series of case studies that address carnivore functionality, niche partitioning, population dynamics, and local adaptation.
