We are excited to welcome our newest master’s student, Janet Van Zoeren. Prior to joining us she worked at Brines Farm, a winter greens CSA in Dexter MI, just outside Ann Arbor. Janet’s project is, of course, awesome! In addition to the handful of well-known cranberry pests, there are a number of arthropod species whose ecological niche is less well understood. Using nitrogen isotope ratios, she will classify the trophic position of arthropods commonly inhabiting cranberry marshes. Applied, her work will inform cranberry growers in deciding which insects to eliminate, encourage, or leave alone.
