We use remote sensing to study the functioning of ecosystems, in particular nutrient dynamics, physiology and links between vegetation, insects and the water cycle.

We like to think of our work as using remote sensing to measure the heartbeat and lung capacity of ecosystems.

  • What is an ecosystem doing? (its heartbeat)
  • What is the ability of the ecosystem to perform important functions? (its lung capacity)

UW-EnSpec — the Environmental Spectroscopy Laboratory — is the part of our research venture that encompasses the computation and measurement facilities we use to do our research.
