Jose Pablo Soto-Arias

Graduate Research Assistant

Jose Pablo (JP), a PhD student co-advised by Dr. Jeri Barak (UW-Plant Pathology) and Dr. Russell Groves, is investigating the role of phytophagous insects in multiplication and persistence of Salmonella enterica on plants.  The ultimate goal of JP’s research is to reduce the incidence of food-borne illness and provide a safer food supply through a better understanding of the mechanisms that allow these bacteria to grow in the phyllosphere following phytophagous insect infestation.  JP’s primary interests include vector-pathogen-host interactions, plant/ human bacterial pathogens, food safety and global food security.
