Our Research

We are an applied research group in the Department of Entomology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The majority of our research focuses on insect pests of turfgrass and ornamental plants in the great lakes region.

We currently have active research projects focusing on:

  • Japanese beetle (both adults and white grubs)
  • Gypsy Moth
  • Emerald Ash Borer
  • Black Cutworm

… and other pests.

Our Extension Outreach

We also provide Extension entomology support in Wisconsin for these areas:

  • turfgrass
  • ornamentals
  • Christmas trees
  • greenhouses
  • grapes
  • cranberries

We regularly develop and distribute new Extension materials to provide constituents with the most relevant information.

Part of our Extension activities include educating the public about exotic and invasive insects:

  • We play an active role by maintaining the Gypsy Moth, and Emerald Ash Borer websites.
  • We are regularly updating and creating new Extension fact sheets for homeowners and industry professionals.
