New Wisconsin beetle species named for Professor Daniel Young

Dr. Darren Pollock, a professor in Eastern New Mexico University’s department of biology, discovered a previously undescribed beetle species endemic to two Wisconsin counties.

The beetles Professor Pollock used to describe the new species came in a research loan from our own Wisconsin Insect Research Collection (WIRC). Darren named the new species Mycterus youngi to honor the WIRC’s director, and Darren’s long time colleague in beetle systematics and taxonomy, Dr. Daniel Young.
