Please join us this Sunday, 10 January, for a
WIRC Coleoptera Sorting Open House (aka Open Cabinet)!
Where: Department of Entomology, 147 Russell Labs, 1630 Linden Drive, UW-Madison campus (use the entrance closest to Steenbock Library; parking in adjacent garage is free on Sundays!)
When: 10:00 am – until as long as you wish (or until ~4:00 pm), with a break for pizza and soft drinks (provided!) around noon
Who: Anyone with a passion for beetles! (Feel free to share this with others that might be interested.)
What: We’ll examine unsorted pinned or point-mounted, labeled specimens and sort them to family level (or lower).
Why: We have over 24 drawers of unsorted Coleoptera in the WIRC and we think it will be immensely rewarding (and helpful!) to sort these specimens to the family level and make them easier to find for anyone interested in a particular taxon.
How: We’ll provide the facility, ‘scopes, drawers, unit trays, tags, and any other equipment needed—you’ll provide your expertise and willingness to socialize and sort beetles!
