Outreach

WIRC-display

The Wisconsin Insect Research Collection (WIRC) hosts numerous individual, family, organization, and K/12 groups for tours or insect presentations led by the WIRC curator. For a recent three year period, about 1,800 individuals per year visited the collection during such visits.

Some groups and programs the WIRC has provided instructional components and outreach for include the summer “UW College for Kids” programs, Madison Public Schools “Urban Experiences,” Waunakee “Summer Science” program, the Wisconsin “Science Olympiad”, the UW “Grandparent’s University, the UW “Whys & Wows” outreach programs, and the UW-Madison “UW Right Now” Project.

The Insect Ambassadors also receives support from the WIRC. The Insect Ambassadors, a student-run organization, typically provides outreach by travelling out to the community: to local schools, clubs, and organizations. These undergraduate and graduate student volunteers promote “insect awesomeness” through interactive presentations, hands-on desplays, and live insects.
